Kids Restart News

Kids Restart is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Augusta, Georgia. Our major objective is to assist in stopping the cycle of neglect and abuse against the children of Richmond, Burke and Columbia Counties.  Our primary mission is to provide supervised visitation program for children in foster care or shelters.  The purpose of the visitation program is to provide a safe and secure environment where these children can have state required visits with their parents under the supervision of our trained and caring staff.  Most of the referrals we receive are from Richmond County Department of Family and Children Services.  We have provided supervised visitation for Burke and Columbia counties as well.

It is truly a dark time in a child’s life when they are separated from their parents, even under the best of circumstances.  Kids Restart tries to shine a little light on these unfortunate children during this dark time in their lives by providing safe, secure, visitation, which includes structured activities designed to build, strengthen, and maintain child-parent bonds and develop positive parental skills.  Each visit is specifically tailored to meet the needs of each individual family.  Our services help families continue to develop and maintain their relationship while apart and prepare them for their reunification. In cases where reunification is not a possibility, we help prepare the family for this outcome as well.

Kids Restart has provided supervised visitation since 2002.  Since opening our doors, we have provided 25 to 40 visits per week.  We provide transportation to and from the visit for the children and when possible (availability of funds), fair for public transportation to parents who have no means of transportation.   Kids Restart also offers parenting classes using the Nurturing Parenting Program ® and TransParenting® curriculum.  Nurturing Parenting Program® classes are offered on a case by case basis as part of our visitation services and TransParenting® (Divorce Class) is offered twice a month for a modest fee set by the County Court.
